Big News Family Update

I know, I know it has been a while.  I have been way behind on blogging and posting. Well with lots of changes in our little family it has kept me very busy over the last few months.

Well that is going to change. First update our family of four is expanding and we are expecting our 3rd baby this winter. Kaylie has had some surgeries to correct her kidneys and we are finally getting back in the flow of daily life.

We are 20 weeks along with our little baby. The baby is perfectly healthy and happy.

Now we have to change the living situation upstairs around. Redo the girls rooms and decorate the baby's room.

I swear I will be updating weekly from here on out. I won't be slacking anymore.

Farmhouse entertainment center

I have been seriously searching everywhere for the perfect entertainment center, it seemed almost impossible. I wanted something functional but cute. That blended well with my style. After 6 months of just not finding what I wanted. I took to the thrift store to see if I could find a piece with strength and storage ability our family needed.
I found this lovely buffet table at the local salvation army here in Anchorage. The price tag was little steep $90 but It was real wood, heavy, perfect, and with little damage. So it was coming home with me for a nice little facelift. I noticed "sale" signs everywhere they said "50% off all items to clear out for new inventory" So when I headed up to the counter, sure enough it was only $45 dollars!!!

What a steal!
I picked up some chalk paint and sanded down the finish and rough edges.
I taped off just a few accent pieces two middle drawers, the barn cabinet door, and the top middle section. I just love using Matte color finishes it just nice and subtle.

I just love this piece because behind the cabinet was an additional 3 drawers for some nice hidden storage. Perfect when you have a ton of kid craft stuff that doesn't need to be right out in the open every day. One of the drawers is just coloring books.
What I Used:  Waverly Inspirations Chalk Paint from  good old Walmart
Colors (Plaster) it is a beautiful off white
(Silver Lining ) I waxed with clear wax.

Spray paint diy decor

So many times I look at decor items in our house and I think ugh that doesn't match my theme. I am an advent diyer to save money. There is nothing you can't fix with a little bit of spray paint.
It works amazing for thrift store finds and picture frames. After two coats of paint these beasts turned into beauties.
I used a little sand paper to distress the edges of the tray and picture frame. I just love the out come don't you?
Total penny saver move for everyone!

Valentine's Day treats

Super easy Valentine wafer cookie treat. These were super easy to make for the kids.
What you will need: wax paper, pink candy melts, Valentine sprinkle and wafer cookies

Melt the candy melts in plastic tuppawear for 30 seconds in the microwave stir and repeat till smooth and all the way melted.
Lay wax paper down on the table. Dip the tip of the wafer cookies into the melted candy. Lay flat.
Decorate the wafers with sprinkles.

It is super fun for the kids to just cover the cookies with sprinkles. Enjoy!

Built-in shelving update

One of our main reasons for purchasing our house was, was the built in shelves. We love them classic library look too them, but they were outdated all the natural wood in our home was clashing and making it dark.
So after tons of Pinterest I knew I needed to update these bad boys. So I took my idea to lowes.
I had to first caulk all the book cases next to the ceiling and adjoining walls so they were flush. I painted by hand two coats of stain blocker from vaspar. To block the dark staining, then I started covering everything with tarps because I bought a new paint gun. (Wagner flexio570)
Yes, I know what a mess our living room is, but the spray gun worked like a charm. We chose to paint our shelves Pure White in satin finish from Sherman Williams. We ended up doing the mantle by hand and three coats on the shelves. We couldn't be happier with the finish.

Like I always say there is nothing paint can't fix. I love the age of this house it has undeniable character it just needed a little TLC. On to the next shelf and window.
